  • From transporting dangerous gases to moving delicate silicon wafers.
  • From designing robots for carrying auto parts to designing systems for information delivery.

Statement: Wunsch Foundation Award, Writing Contest for Best paper on Materials Handling

This annual writing contest awards $1,000 in cash prizes to the best student papers on materials handling. The contest was established in 1951 with a $5,000 donation from the Wunsch Foundation, Inc. The permanent trust, known as the "Silent Hoist & Crane Company Materials Handling Prize Award," was created to promote and reward the study of materials handling.

Entry

Please submit an original paper on any topic that relates to materials handling; for example, you could write about supply chain management, ERP, robotic transport, RFID, micro-electronics manufacturing, automated assembly, manipulation of materials in packaging, or information delivery systems.

The paper must be typed, double-spaced, 3000-4000 words, may use headings, figures and tables (with captions and credits), references (APA documentation style); you may use a paper originally submitted for a class if revised.

  • Print out the entry form or pick up a form in M1050, Engineering Centers Building, Technical Communication Office.
  • Turn in cover sheet with one original paper and three copies--no names on either original or copies).
  • Paper (plus copies and cover sheet) due no later than noon, March 24, 2008, Rm M1050, Engineering Centers Building (mezzanine level).
