University of Wisconsin Crest The University of Wisconsin, founded in 1848, is located next to majestic Lake Mendota in Wisconsin's state capital, Madison. As an integral part of the city, U.W. students have access to a large array of cultural and recreational activities usually not found in a city of Madison's size (population of 203, 000).

Great student life is only one aspect of U.W.'s outstanding reputation. Ranked as one of the top 30 universities in America by U.S. News and World Report, U.W. - Madison has an excellent academic reputation and is the top public research institution in America.

The U.W. College of Engineering is the home of 12 undergraduate and 14 graduate degree programs, as well as the Department of Engineering Professional Development. The second largest college at U.W., COE has excellent facilities and a plethora of research opportunities. Among those facilities is the Computer-Aided Engineering Center (CAE), which provides all engineering students with state-of-art computing facilities and software.
